Welcome to the Highlander Band!
Welcome to the website of First Presbyterian Christian Academy's Highlander Band. We hope you enjoy your visit.
The Highlander Band was first created in 2001 by Mr. Calhoun, the music teacher at the time. At first, the band was known as the FPCS Trumpeteers. It consisted of five boys from the fourth and fifth grades, none of whom had ever played a trumpet before in their lives. The group got off to a slow start, as everyone had to start with the very basics of how to play. Eventually, they got off of the ground, and in 2002, the group added flutes to the mix. In 2003, they added saxophones, and the growth continued.
Now, the Highlander Band includes everything from trumpet to tubas, flutes to the electric bass, saxophones to oboes. The band has twenty-two members ranging from sixth to twelfth grade, and sends members to both middle and high school honor bands every year. One of our original members, Logan McCorkle, graduated from FPCA last year, while another, Patrick Steele, will graduate this year. The band has come a long way from its humble beginnings; it has gained instruments, people, structure, and skill since it was first created nine years ago. We hope to see it continue to grow as more students come to FPCA.
